Family Reflections:
Got to ride the train chunnel-style!
Very friendly Parisians! Hardly a metro was taken without someone moving seats for Amari or Waylon or so we could all be together.
Extremely helpful and considerate as I attempted some French (mostly English with the 20 French words I know thrown in).
Rival burgers here! Kids and B.C. enjoyed really good ones and I had one of the best veggie burgers I've ever had.
Yes, the baguettes are the best...we ate at least one a day (as a family). The kids did the baguette challenge (see bottom photos).
Love the coffee and desserts for sure!
Since arriving in Europe, we haven't seen a screen on a window. Intriguing.
Living like Parisians for sure...grocer daily for bread and snacks, daily cafes, metro, and umbrella-ing like pros!
Depiction of what the train looks like under the English Channel...aka, the chunnel experience.
Did schoolwork and read...really enjoying the train time verse the me driving time. 😂
Sacré Coeur
B.C. had to work, but the kids and I explored our neighborhood in the rain. Sacré Coeur a short walk out our door.
Inside the Basilica...amazing mosaic!
Go Joan!
Looking out from the Basilica.
The rain cleared up as we climbed the dome steps and we had some sunset rays!
I mean really, just a tad beautiful!
Musee d'Orsay (one of Merica's favorite museums)
Some highlights for us:
Pierre Bonnard works
The Gates of Hell by Rodin
The museum layout (and not overwhelming)
Monet, Manet, Degas, Van Gogh, Cezzane, Gaugin, and more!
This was my "French" outfit day!
I love the old train station turned into a museum vibe.
For all the horse lovers out there (Freya)!
I mean, you would think this was done in this century...it's from 1893 by Roderic O'Conor!
Monet abounds here!
Serenity, even in a tourist spot.
The Eiffel Tower
Olympic memories still hang around on the tower too!
A tidge windy up there!
Tre bien!
Le Louvre
The mini Arc de Triomphe en route to Le Louvre...a perfect time for a museum!
What a door!
Swoosh...go Greek Godeess Nike (Victory).
Egyptian Relics
Crazy about cows!
It's a goat!
Cupid loves me!
Versailles
A stunning walk up to the Palace.
We'd live here!
Louis XIV
The Hall of Mirrors, where the Treaty of Versailles was signed in 1919, ending WWI, was a favorite for sure!
It would take years to know your way around all these rooms.
Enjoyed some famous French macarons, the blue one named after Marie Antoinette, while looking over the orangery.
Found a delightful topiary snail on our stroll through the gardens.
The ponds and fountains abound...these are two of our favorites.
Paris Catacombs
This place is amazing! The kids still wanted to stay between B.C. and I, but the paths and history here are an experience for sure. After over-quarrying under Paris, it was discovered that Paris would be destroyed and the backfilling began.
Truly an unique art!
Many epitaphs tell of where remains were moved from or which battle they died in.
From famous to your regular old Jaques, remains were stacked up here from various places around Paris.
Around Paris...not sure we pulled off looking like Parisians, but we felt Paris love everywhere!
Placa de la Concorde... deconstructing the Olympic venue. You forget how long that takes!
Love the Lego boat on the Seine!
A little Tommy Jefferson action for you we found randomly. Go T.J.!
Crepes...ooh la la!
Took awhile (and a helpful local) but finally got the public toilette door to stay closed. 😅
No more photos, please.
Arc de Triomphe
Waylon's beauty mark (chocolate beignet remnants)!
Sainte Chapelle
The resoration of Notre Dame is almost done! Truly remarkable what they've been able to do in only five years.
The Baguette Challenge (eat a whole baguette in one sitting...thanks Amari's friends!)
The beginning...
Half way point...both still going strong!
Last bite...did not think they would finish.
Both Amari and Waylon accomplished the challenge (25 minutes for Amari and 45 for Waylon).
